Dec 16, 2013 (newstodate): Delivery of the first Airbus A320 aircraft for the Latvian carrier Alpha Express Airlines has been slightly delayed.
Originally slated for delivery before the end of December, the aircraft is now expected to arrive at its coming base at Riga Airport by mid-January 2014.
-The delay is caused by more time needed for the pre-delivery maintenance work on the aircraft, but apart from that everything is proceeding as planned, says Rolands Ramins, Alpha Express Airlines Managing Director.
-We are thus preoccupied with the preparations around the delivery of the aircraft, and in the meantime negotiations are proceeding with our customers leading the signing of the first contracts with tour operators.
-The aircraft is delivered on a leasing contract with BBAM Aircraft Leasing, and we are also in negotiations with another leasing company over addition of a second aircraft to follow by February or March 2014, but the details are still to finally settled early into 2014, says Mr Ramins.
The carrier was registered in 2012 and took delivery of its first aircraft earlier this year - an ex-Georgian Star International Airbus A300F4-200 freighter that was stationed in Sharjah.
But after a brief period, the carrier pulled out from the freighter market, seeing more business prospects in the charter and ACMI segments for passenger aircraft.
