Dec 17, 2013 (newstodate): The Icelandic/Danish charter carrier Primera Air took its first steps into the air cargo market this summer - but it did not prove very successful.
-Our first attempt was aiming at the Icelandic fish exports, and we did have some cargo shipment. However, it soon dried up, says Jon M Einvardsson, Primera Air Director Ground Operations.
-Eventually we realized that our flight times and frequencies did not meet the fish export market's needs, and as our focus of course remains the passenger charter market air cargo has not developed with us.
-For this business to grow, it must of course be beneficial to the forwarders, and we certainly do not preclude that new efforts will be made if and when our network and frequencies prove a better match to the fish exporting industry, says Mr Einvardsson.
In the start-up phase, Primera Air was marketing its capacity through the Icelandic GSA Cargo Express for cargo sales to and from Iceland.
