Dec 04, 2013 (newstodate): Operating now five Boeing 737 freighters, the Icelandic carrier Bluebird Cargo is happy to see all aircraft flying on contracts.
-2013 remains a very demanding year with stiff competition in the ACMI market, but even so we have seen a slight increase in business and we are cautiously optimistic about prospects for next year as well, says Skuli Skulasson, Bluebird Cargo managing director.
-We have seen business volumes growing with our existing customer portfolio as well as fresh business with new customers, so we are not complaining.
-Based on the current forecasts, we will stick to our five-aircraft fleet but we do have the infrastructure to grow the fleet if business opportunities should arise in the market. But we are moving cautiously and in times like these we would not consider taking on risks that would have been considered worthwhile some years ago, says Mr Skulasson.
In February 2011, Bluebird Cargo original owner, the Icelandair Group divested itself from the ownership that was placed with two major Icelandic banks pending a future sale.
-Efforts to attract new investors are still going on, but so far with no concrete results. In the meantime our job is to run the carrier efficiently and profitably, says Mr Skulasson.
