Dec 06, 2013 (newstodate): At its board meeting on December 5, 2013, Aeroflot has decided to phase out the last remaining IL-96-300 aircraft from service.
The aircraft will be retired from commercial service by April 2014, divesting Aeroflot of the last of its aging Soviet-built aircraft.
The IL-96-300 became ill-famed as its doors failed to open on one high-profiled state visit by Mr Putin, leaving the president unable to exit the plane..
At the meeting, the Aeroflot board also recommended the financial lease of six new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft as well as the completion of preparations for the acquisition of 35 Airbus A320-200 with expected delivery time in 2016-2018.
