Dec 10, 2013 (newstodate): Abu Dhabi's plans for Serbia may go beyond the recent take-over by Etihad of the former Serb carrier JAT.
Industry sources in Serbia claim that plans are underway for Etihad to take over also Serbia's Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.
Etihad is expected to land a 20-year concession of the airport without a prior tender process, with obligations to build a new passenger terminal, a new runway and other airport infrastructure.
In the alleged plans is also the merger of Belgrade Airport's handling division with Air Serbia Ground Services.
In October 2013, a high-level Serb government delegation visited Abu Dhabi to negotiate a new cooperation with Abu Dhabi's Mubadala company, a governmental institution to spur the country's industrial development and diversification.
An agreement was reportedly reached - but no details have been published about the content of the agreement.
