Nov 18, 2013 (newstodate): The appointment of a new CEO of the Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways may perhaps re-open the dialogue on the viability of a dedicated freighter service to connect the Faroe Islands with international gateways.
-It is no secret that many in the airfreight industry met with very little interest towards the cargo business by the outgoing CEO, says a Faroese cargo specialist who prefers anonymity at this stage.
-Neighboring Iceland has long ago seen the potentials in uplift capacity to bring its seafood exports to the international market place while Icelandic exporters are still mainly restricted to sending shipments by sea to harbors in the UK.
-Efforts have repeatedly been made by various project groups to raise support for a dedicated freighter service at the Faroe Islands, but even if they have invariably failed also due to little support or outright resistance by our national carrier, the time might again be ripe to take up the issue as Atlantic Airways' new CEO takes office.
