Nov 04, 2013 (newstodate): Bolstered by its new partner, Etihad, Serbia's rejuvenated carrier Air Serbia has its eyes set on fleet expansion.
This week, the carrier is taking delivery of its third of eight Airbus A319 aircraft ordered, but the new management is already planning for a tender process among the world's leading aircraft manufacturers including Airbus, Boeing and Bombardier to meet its need for more and modern aircraft.
With the new Airbus fleet, the carrier is opening five new destinations in 2013 including flights to Abu Dhabi, Banja Luka, Bucharest, Ljubljana and Prague, and plans are to add a further 12 new routes in 2014.
Among the high-priority goals is the reopening of direct flights between Serbia and North America already from 2014, following on the recent upgrading by the US CAA of Serbia to Category I.
