Nov 18, 2013 (newstodate): Plans are underway for establishing a new airline in Chechnya, Russia's Caucasus region.
Behind the plans are the state of Chechnya and Saudi Arabia, a result of a recent meeting between Chechnya's omnipotent leader Ramzan Kadyrov and a member of the Saudi royal family, Sheik Khalifa who also happens to be co-owning Saudia Arabian Airlines.
A cooperation agreement will reportedly be signed later this month, and the planned carrier will turn Grozny Severny Airport into an international airport with routes to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and other markets.
So far, the airport has connections only to a limited number of Russian destinations including Moscow.
