Nov 27, 2013 (newstodate): At least one more major carrier now commits to raising the level of e-freight implementation in the Nordic region in 2014.
So far, Lufthansa Cargo has declared its determination to boost the rate of e-freight bookings and the e-AWB in 2014. Now KLM Cargo also joins the chorus.
-E-freight is absolutely a focus area for us in 2014, says Noud Duyzings, Director KLM/Air France/Martinair Cargo Nordic.
-We must work with IATA and other major airlines in this region to set the process on track. e-freight is a must for this industry, and coming as I do from the airline passenger business I can only regret that the airfreight industry lags far behind in implementing electronic business solutions.
-We are determined to heat up the process from early 2014 in cooperation with IATA and airline partners, and I will personally go for increasing the e-freight penetration to above 50 percent by the end of 2014, says mr Duyzings.
According to Danish Airfreight Forwarders, a status meeting will be called by early 2014 to allow all participants in the process including forwarders, GSAs, airlines and IATA representatives to share a common appraisal of the situation as a prerequisite for formulating a lasting plan for the remaining process towards implementation of the e-freight.
Ominously silent on the issue is still Scandinavia's leading carrier SAS that is obviously not to take a lead in the process.
