Nov 01, 2013 (newstodate): The Kazakh carrier Air Astana is taking the bold step of moving from leasing to outright purchases of its aircraft.
The new plan will take effect from the turn of the year, and the carrier will then purchase all aircraft delivered in 2013 and continue building up its aircraft fleet by purchases through own assets.
The carrier, managed by UK national Peter Foster, is now operating a fleet comprising 27 aircraft, with deliveries of a further seven aircraft ordered to follow.
The order book comprises three Boeing 878 Dreamliner aircraft, three Boeing 767-300ER and one Embraer 190, but plans are reportedly on the table for more aircraft orders to be announced soon.
