Nov 13, 2013 (newstodate): Flying under its own AOC since October 30,2013, Iceland's low-cost carrier WOW Air is now detailing plans for start of North American services.
WOW Air plans to launch services from summer 2014 on a new route from London Gatwick via Keflavik Airport on Iceland to Boston, in the USA.
The route will be operated six times weekly, using Airbus A320 aircraft for a start.
After this, WOW Air will be considering other US destinations that will require the carrier to invest in larger aircraft the size of Boeing 757 to obtain sufficient range and payload capacity.
With its first flight on June 1, 2012, WOW Air was established by Skuli Mogensen and Matthias Imsland, former Iceland Express CEO.
In October 2012, WOW Air took over its long-established competitor Iceland Express through an outright acquisition.
The carrier operates a fleet comprising four Airbus A320 aircraft and expects to add a fifth Airbus A320 in 2014.
