Nov 18, 2013 (newstodate): Abu Dhabi-based Gulf carrier Etihad is again digging deeper into European air transport.
New in the Etihad family is Darwin Airline, a regional carrier set up in 2003 and based at Logano, Switzerland.
Pending government approvals, Etihad will take 33 percent of the stake in the carrier, to be re-branded Etihad Regional.
With its new owner, Darwin Airline will start out with traffic on the route between Geneva and Belgrade, Serbia, from May 14, 2014.
Already from June 1, 2014, Etihad will commence flights between Abu Dhabi and Zurich that will become also the main hub of Darwin Airline, providing flights between this hub and a number of European destinations to feed traffic into and out of Etihad's network.
Operating a fleet of 10 SAAB200 aircraft, Darwin Airline will thus become the 7th airline in Etihad's growing "family" that already includes Virgin Australia, Air Seychelles, Condor, Air Lingus, Jet Airways and Air Serbia.
No doubt, more family members will follow..
