Nov 27, 2013 (newstodate): China is increasingly showing its interest in approaching Central Asian countries to support infrastructure projestc.
One latest example is a Chinese offer to invest in the development of Kyrgyzstan's Issyk-Kul Tamchy Airport, serving the region of Issyk-Kul, in the country's northeastern part.
The airport has one 2,000m runway constructed in 2003, but an extension of the runway and new infrastructure elements would raise the capacity of the airport and with new airnav equipment its capacity would allow for international traffic, including air traffic from China.
Today, the airport is only served with domestic flights and one link to Almaty, in Kazakhstan.
China is also airing its interest in investing in the country's Manas Airport where Kyrgyz plans are to turn it into a logistics center after the withdrawal of the US forces in 2014.
