Nov 08, 2013 (newstodate): The slow Asian traffic remains Finnair Cargo's single most vulnerable point.
In October 2013 cargo volumes in the Asian segment dropped 1.7 percent, y-o-y, to 7,448 tonnes, and for the period January-October 2013 the segment remained in negative growth by 3.8 percent, to 67,896 tonnes.
As the Asian loads account for more than half of the company's cargo volumes, the decline reflects immediately on the total picture where Finnair Cargo remains 2.3 percent down in total volumes so far in 2013, to 122,077 tonnes.
Finnair Cargo is seeing some consolation, however, in the performance in European cargo where volumes were up by 22.1 percent,y-o-y, to 2,2761 tonnes in October, and by 14 percent to 19,532 tonnes during Jan-Oct 2013.
In the North Atlantic sector the company carried 618 tonnes in October, down 1.6 percent, and 6,323 tonnes during Jan-Oct, down 0.6 percent, y-o-y.
Freighter operations performed better in October 2013, where a total of 2,889 tonnes were carried, up 13.2 percent, while figures for Jan-Oct were still down 2.3 percent, y-o-y, to 26,579 tonnes.
