Nov 13, 2013 (newstodate): A serious rift over slot allotment is developing between Ukraine International Airlines and Uzbekistan Airways.
The Uzbek party claims that UIA is forcing its way to preferred slots at Tashkent Airport by putting pressure on Uzbekistan Airways to let go their slots through involving also the aviation authorities and the diplomatic corps.
At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities have also reportedly refused to grant permits for Uzbekistan Airways to operate their planned flights from Tashkent to Kiev during this winter's schedule.
Uzbekistan's embassy in Ukraine has now intervened in the strife, noting that Uzbekistan Airways will have to cease services on the route if no compromise is found.
Under the existing Air Services Agreement between the two states, Ukraine has designated a total of 10 Ukrainian carriers to serve the route between Kiev and Tashkent - but most of these have now ceased operations, with UIA taking over their traffic rights thus gaining momentum in their claims against the Uzbek party.
