Oct 01, 2013 (newstodate): Uzbekistan's government plans to upgrade a number of the country's airport to international status.
In focus are the airports of Andijan, Namangan, Ferghana, Termez and Karshi that are now restricted to domestic air services but may be upgraded to serve international traffic in the future.
A process has been started in cooperation with Uzbekistan Airlines to implement flight safety supervision and the preparation of data on the airports for inclusion in international aeronautical information.
All relevant ministries will be involved in the process to establish border control, customs, vet control and the entire range of services and controls as a prerequisite for opening up the airports for international traffic.
