Oct 11, 2013 (newstodate): After a prolonged news curfew, Swissport and SAS have now announced November 1, 2013, as the date for the first step in Swissport's take-over of the management of the SAS Group's handling company SGH.
Swissport is, however, only to take a 10 percent stake in SGH, putting negotiations concerning a complete outsourcing by SAS of its ground and cargo handling services in Scandinavia on hold until after completion of Swissport's acquisition and integration of Servisair, which is still subject to merger clearance.
At this stage it thus seems that Swissport will be partnering with SGH in handling at the Scandinavian airports while it remains unclear exactly what changes are immediately on the table on the operational level.
In March 2013, SAS and Swissport announced the signing of a LoI paving the way for continued negotiations between SAS and Swissport related to the complete outsourcing of SAS ground and cargo handling services in Scandinavia.
