Oct 28, 2013 (newstodate): Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport may look forward to regaining some of the momentum lost in 2013.
According to the latest figures provided by Swedavia, cargo volumes through Stockholm Arlanda Airport increased in September 2013 by 6.1 percent, to a total of 11,811 tonnes.
-At last we saw the negative trend breaking in September, when volumes lifted again. This development is generated not least by Emirates, online at the airport since September 4, 2013, when the carrier launched services with daily flights using Boeing 777-200LR aircraft offering an extra 238 tonnes of weekly lower-deck capacity in the market, says Ylva Arvidssson, Swedavia Director Cargo.
-The Swedish market has also reacted positively to the new cargo offerings by Norwegian. More cargo is thus now flown directly out of Stockholm Arlanda Airport rather than being trucked into European gateways.
Despite the positive growth in September, the airport's volumes during this year's first nine months are still down 2.6 percent, y-o-y, to 147,041 tonnes.
