Oct 03, 2013 (newstodate): Long delayed, the reopening of Serbia's Uzice-Ponikve Airport is to take place on October 5, 2013.
Originally a military base, Uzice-Ponikve Airport served as a domestic airport during the 90'ies before being destroyed at the end of decade during the civil wars in the region.
The airport has now been reconstructed for use by general aviation in the first place, but plans are to develop it further to open up for commercial operations, including charter flights.
The airport's 3,200 m runway has been renovated and is capable of allowing operations by Boeing 737 and airbus A320 type of commercial aircraft.
Also a new passenger terminal is included in the plans that, however, remain on the shelf till financing has been secured.
