Oct 01, 2013 (newstodate): Plans have been unveiled for construction of a new airport complex at Anapa, on Russia's Black Sea coast.
Basel Aero has signed an agreement with the the government of Anapa in southern Russia on building a new terminal complex adjoining the current Anapa Vityazevo Airport, to be commissioned in 2015.
A new 9,000 sq m terminal with a passenger capacity of 700 passengers per hour will serve domestic airlines, while the existing terminal will be dedicated to serving international traffic.
When finished, the airport will have a total handling capacity at 1,100 passengers per hour in 2015.
During the construction of the new airport, the existing Anapa International Airport will remain operational, with no construction-related disruptions either for passengers or for the carriers.
In 2010 a project was launched to extend the runway from the existing 2,500m to 2,850m, and in the project was also a modernization of the runway lighting system and other equipment.
Anapa Vityazevo Airport, among 52 Russian airports of strategic importance, was set up in 1974 and is now managed by Basel Aero.
