Oct 04, 2013 (newstodate): Qatar Airways is increasing its slice of the Norwegian IATA airfreight export market.
In August 2013, the latest month accounted for, the carrier's market share reached 22.8 percent, corresponding to 1,904 tonnes out of the total market at 8,350 tonnes.
The carrier launched passenger flights between Doha and Oslo with an Airbus A330-300 on October 5, 2011, going up to daily rotations from January 1, 2013.
And starting from January 29, 2013, Qatar Airways Cargo also became online at Norway's Oslo Gardermoen Airport with a Boeing 777F freighter as a stop on the route from Amsterdam to Doha, adding a second weekly flight from July 6, 2013.
So even if Norway's total IATA export cargo market was down in August by 11.2 percent, y-o-y, Qatar Airways still managed to grow its volumes significantly.
Only three other Top-10 IATA carriers held two-digit market shares: Finnair Cargo with 16.5 percent of the market, however, saw its volumes down 22.7 percent, y-o-y, to 1,381 tonnes, and Korean Air Lines Cargo held 10 percent of the market while volumes also dipped 17.5 percent, y-o-y, to 836 tonnes.
