Oct 16, 2013 (newstodate): Finnair has now been allowed as third party to the existing cooperation between Japan Air Lines and British Airways on flights between Japan and Europe.
Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has granted anti-trust immunity to the joint business between Japan Airlines, Finnair and British Airways.
The three carriers can now cooperate commercially on flights between Europe and Japan, sharing revenues, coordinating flight schedules and mileage programs and jointly expand their presence in the Japanese market.
The revenue-sharing agreement will strengthen the oneworld alliance and enable it to compete more effectively around the world with other global alliances.
Today, Finnair flies daily from Helsinki to Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya as the only European carrier offering all three destinations, British Airways operates from Heathrow to Tokyo's Narita and Haneda airports, while Japan Airlines operates daily from Tokyo to London, Paris Frankfurt and Helsinki.
