Oct 11, 2013 (newstodate): New in the Russian skies from spring 2014 will be the low-cost carrier Dobrolet.
Dobrolet has been picked as the name of Aeroflot's new low-cost venture that will initially have a fleet comprising eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft to be based at Moscow Domodedovo Airport according to industry sources.
Plans are to start out with flights between destinations in Russia's European part, and eight more aircraft will be added annually during the first phase of development.
Heading the 100 percent Aeroflot-owned carrier will be Vladimir Gorbunov as Director General.
Mr Gorbunov earlier served as general director with another Russian attempt at LCC business, Avianova, that however ceased operations after a spectacular management crisis and a similar shortage of funding on October 9, 2011.
