Oct 15, 2013 (newstodate): DHL Express has changed its operations at Denmark's Billund Airport as part of the restructuring of the operations in the Nordic region.
Thus, DHL Express has stopped its rotation on the route between Leipzig and Billund, calling instead at the airport in West Denmark only on the return flights from Orebro, in Sweden, to load export shipments on the flight back to Leipzig, according to industry sources.
Since April 6, 2010, the company allocated one Boeing 757-200F aircraft to serving Billund Airport, flying in from Leipzig in the morning and going back to Leipzig again in the night, connecting western Denmark more closely to the DHL hub at Leipzig as to both import and export shipments.
Import shipments destined for customers in Western Denmark will now instead by trucked into the region from Copenhagen.
DHL Express is thus focusing on its operations at Copenhagen Airport, increasing flight operations from currently four to ten rotations per day providing for transfer of shipments to Sweden, Norway and Finland.
-To ease the stress on the Leipzig hub, part of the traffic will be routed through other stations, with Copenhagen to see direct flights also to and from Brussels, Cologne and East Midlands, Claus Lassen, DHL Express Country Manager Denmark, earlier told newstodate.
