Oct 31, 2013 (newstodate): Armenia is now taking steps to fill the void in its provision of air services after the demise earlier in 2013 of its for national carrier, Armavia.
In the air from October 27, 2013, is now Air Armenia that has launched services from Yerevan to Moscow Vnukovo Airport using a Boeing 737-500 aircraft on the route.
Later in November, the carrier will add an Airbus A320 aircraft leased from AerCap to gradually open up services to another six destinations in Russia, including including St Petersburg, Sochi, Rostov, Krasnodar and Samara.
Beside Air Armenia, Armenian International Airways and Krunk Air have also been mentioned as possible new national carriers.
Armenia has hired the global consultancy, McKinsey & Company to work out a master plan for developing the country's new aviation infrastructure, aiming at a further liberalization of the country's civil aviation.
