Oct 07, 2013 (newstodate): The new Lithuanian carrier Air Lituanica is seizing a business opportunity by the opening during this coming Christmas season of new routes - and flights from a new Lithuanian airport.
So far, the carrier is operating flights from Vilnius Airport to Munich, Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Prague.
But during the period December 21, 2013-January 4, 2014, the carrier will also offer flights from Vilnius Airport to Dublin and London Gatwick, as well as flights from Palanga Airport, at the country's Baltic coast, to Dublin and London Gatwick.
The program between Vilnius and London will comprise seven rotations, while the carrier will offer five rotations on the route between Vilnius and Dublin.
From Palanga at the Baltic coast, Air Lituanica will operate five rotations each on the two routes during the Christmas and New Year's holiday season.
The seasonal flights will, however, be operated with aircraft chartered from another Lithuanian carrier, Small Planet Airlines.
-We see additional demand for Christmas traffic between to UK and Ireland and Lithuania, says Simonas Bartkus, Air Lituanica COO.
-These markets have a good volumes but are price sensitive, so we need to have as low unit costs as possible. At the same time Small Planet Airlines has spare capacity at the Vilnius base in the winter season, so this is win-win cooperation for the Christmas period. We will continue our other routes with our aircraft during Christmas, says Mr Bartkus.
