Jan 21, 2013 (newstodate): While the Russian state has backed down from resuming production of the Antonov AN-124 freighter for military purposes, a private company is now considering the issue.
Russia's Volga-Dnepr Group is confident of the market for the giant Ruslan freighter, and based on its new AN-124 maintenance capabilities at the Leipzig facility the company will seek partners in a private project to build new Ruslan freighters and will itself take up to 60 aircraft of this type by 2030.
If plans materialize, production may start by 2017.
