Jan 03, 2013 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport is planning for start of a series of construction works by May 2013, estimated to stretch over a 16 months period.
Co-financed by EU, the Riga International Airport Infrastructure Development Project Activities include rebuilding of the airport's runway surfaces, construction of two new taxiways to enhance the capacity of the runway system as well as installation of Category II lighting systems, and upgrading of the airfield lighting system on the north side of the runway by installation of a Category II lighting system.
Also comprised by the project is rebuilding of two apron areas and other infrastructure elements.
On November, 2012, Riga International Airport entered into agreement with the winner of a restricted tender procedure unlimited partnership FCC, Hochtief and ACB for the construction works.
