Jan 29, 2013 (newstodate): On January 17, 2013, Greenland's government, Naalakkersuisut decided upon the time schedule for construction of a new airport for fixed-wing aircraft at Qaqortoq, in southern-most Greenland.
If fully realized, the new airport would be commissioned by 2018, at the latest, but the final decision will rest with Greenland's parliament, Inatsisartut, and a detailed project for the airport will be finalised in 2014, with tenders and construction to start from 2015.
With the realization of the projected new airport at Qaqortoq, the existing Atlantic airport at Narsarsuak will be decommissioned.
