Jan 25, 2013 (newstodate): The government of Kyrgyzstan is keen to secure a future role for Bishkek's Manas International Airport after the pull-out from Afghanistan of the US forces now transiting cargo at the airport.
Plans are to attract traffic by international airlines to build up Manas Air Transit Center as an air logistics center in the region serving the US/Europe traffic to Asia.
The government is thus considering the launch of a 280 mio USD project at the air cargo section of the airport that has upgraded its infrastructure including the acquisition of new material including three Vestergaard Elephant de-icing vehicles as well as 12 AXA power units produced by a Danish manufacturer, new pax busses and other service vehicles.
In 2012, the Lithuanian provider of integrated aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul services FL Technics also set up a new line maintenance station in Kyrgyzstan's Manas International Airport, Bishkek.
