Jan 07, 2013 (newstodate): While exact the launch dates for Finnair Cargo's net European hub and two new destinations are yet to be announced, other details are falling into place.
With the opening of its new European freighter hub at Brussels Zaventem Airport in March 2013, Finnair Cargo will be continuing its existing handling contract with Swissport, so far covering handling of goods on road feeder services only, but soon to comprise also the handling of cargo on the company's two flights, New York-Brussels-Helsinki-Hong Kong and Hong Kong-Helsinki-Brussels-Chicago, respectively.
Sales in the region will also remain with Finnair Cargo's dedicated GSA, ATC Aviation Services NV.
In March 2012, Finnair Cargo contracted the Danish trucking company HCS A/S Transport & Spedition to take over Finnair Cargo's entire air cargo trucking activities in and between all four Nordic markets as well as key North European markets including Germany, Holland, and Belgium, and details for the trucking set-up out of/into Brussels Zaventem Airport are currently being worked out.
The company's new freighter program includes the US destinations New York and Chicago, the Asian destinations Hong Kong and Mumbai, as well as Helsinki and Brussels.
The weekly flight program will be operated with one Nordic Global Cargo MD-11F freighter.
-We have done our best to optimize the schedules and have back-up solutions available if needed, for instance in case of other maintenance jobs than the scheduled weekly 24h break, says Milla Nyholm, Finnair Cargo marketing manager.
