Jan 17, 2013 (newstodate): FAA has issued an emergency airworthiness directive to address a potential battery fire risk in the Boeing 787 and require operators to temporarily cease operations. A similar action has also now been taken by Europe's EASA.
The only US operator so far to fly the Boeing 787 aircraft is United Airlines operating six aircraft of the type.
Prior to this, the Japanese airlines operating the Dreamliner had already grounded their aircraft, including Japan Ar Lines' seven and ANA's 17 Boeing 787 aircraft.
In Chile, the LAN Airlines has grounded its three Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and in India, Air India keeps its six aircraft on the ground as well.
Qatar Airlines has also grounded its five aircraft pending a solution to the issues.
Poland's LOT made its first call on the route from Warsaw to Chicago on January 16, 2013 - but has now got stuck at Chicago as the airline has cancelled the return flight to Warsaw pending further action based on the FAA directive.
Last week, the FAA announced a comprehensive review of the critical systems of the Boeing 787.
The FAA says the battery system will now be a part of that review.
