Jan 18, 2013 (newstodate): Armenia saw a significant increase in cargo volumes through its Yerevan Zvartnots Airport in 2012.
A total of 12,251 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled against 10,014 tonnes in 2011 - an increase by 22.3 percent.
Of the total volume, imports were 6,687 tonnes, up 5.5 percent, y-o-y, and exports were 6,687 tonnes, increasing 41 percent.
Managing Armenia's two airport at Yerevan and Shirak for a 30 year concession period starting in 2011 is American International Airports, owned by Eduardo Eurnekian.
Shirak Airport handled 32.2 tonnes of cargo in 2012, an increase by 65 percent, y-o-y, including 16.9 tonnes of imports, down 11 percent, y-o-y, and 15.3 tonnes of export cargo, up from only 0.5 tonnes in 2011.
