Jan 07, 2013 (newstodate): Estonian Air has seemingly gained just a bit of breathing space amidst its ongoing fight for survival.
On Saturday, January 5, the Estonian Air management and the Estonian Pilots Trade Association agreed on the terms of a Collective Agreement, leading the union to call off the strike that was planned to take effect from this morning, January 7, 2013.
The new agreement will now be submitted to the Supervisory Board of Estonian Air gathering for a regular meeting this afternoon.
If carried through, the strike would have dealt a deadly blow to the carrier that is already in dire financial mire pending first-aid relief in the form of a government capital injection currently being evaluated for approval by the EU.
On December 13, 2012, Estonian Air and the Estonian Air Cabin Crew Union signed a new Collective Agreement, valid up till the end of 2013.
The Estonian Air Cabin Crew Union is uniting some 80 crew members, while the Pilots Trade Association is uniting approximately 80 pilots, out of which 70 are working in Estonian Air.
