Jan 07, 2013 (newstodate): While some flights are still being performed a scheduled by the Ukrainian carrier Aerosvit, cancellations are piling up, and some of the carrier's aircraft are now being arrested as security for unpaid charges and other liabilities.
At least one Boeing 737 aircraft has thus been arrested at Copenhagen Airport, and another has been taken in custody at Warsaw Chopin Airport.
According to sources, Aerosvit flights to Warsaw, Budapest, Tel Aviv, Athens, Copenhagen and Donetsk have so far also been suspended.
In the meantime, Ukraine International Airlines is to take over a growing number of routes so far operated by Aerosvit that has now filed for protection pending declaration of bankruptcy.
Thus, starting from March 31, 2013, UIA will replace Aerosvit on flights between Kiev and Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Prague, to be served with two weekly, two weekly and daily rotations, respectively.
