Jan 31, 2013 (newstodate): Time is running fast now ahead of the implementation of the implementation of EU Directive 185 requirements on screening of airfreight shipments and certification of Known Consignors.
-Many companies have still not realized the situation, but on the other hand we are performing quite a number of inspections as part of the certification process, says Laurits Nielsen, Trafikstyrelsen, in charge of the program in Denmark ans to speak to the Danish airfreight industry in Billund Airport on February 7, 2013, at a conference arranged by the Danish Transportation Economics Association, TOF.
-In the pipeline now are a number of major Danish companies with large number of shipments and several sites. Among these are Danfoss, Grundfos, Novo Nordisk, and B&O, and the final certification of these companies alone will have a large impact on the over-all situation. But it would be hard to tell exactly how many percent of the potential market will then be ready for Directive 185.
-Also not all exporters will find it worthwhile, economically and time-wise, to invest in the certification process but will rather leave airports to scan their shipments.
-Be it as it may, all parties in the airfreight export industry will need to clarify their positions and make appropriate decisions in time. Otherwise they will be in for a truly unpleasant surprise by April 29, 2013,says Mr Nielsen.
