Jan 16, 2013 (newstodate): The last remaining member of the Ukrainian Aviation Group, Donbassaero has now also filed for start of bankruptcy proceedings.
As a first step, the carrier that has run short of financial means to meet its obligations has sought - and found - a six months moratorium against debtor claims in an effort to carry through a restructuring process.
Donbassaero thus follows along the same path as the other members of the Ukrainian Aviation Group owned by Igor Kolomoyskyi's Privat Group that was earlier also behind the Scandinavian carrier Cimber Sterling and Skyways that went bankrupt in 2012.
Donbassaero operates a fleet of 10 Airbus A320 Family aircraft for Aerosvit that is also under protection pending bankruptcy proceedings.
It now seems that most of the assets, including routes, aircraft, staff and traffic rights of the Ukrainean Aviation Group are transferred to Ukraine International Airlines, the ownership of which remains an open issue.
