Sep 07, 2012 (newstodate): The master plan published in 2010 foresees a significant increase in cargo volumes at Slovenia's Ljubljana Jose Pucnik Airport.
According to the plan, the airport can expect to grow its cargo volumes from some 10,000 tonnes in 2008 to more than 60,000 tonnes by 2040, while trucked freight would go as high as to over 100,000 tonnes also in 2040.
The master plan therefore envisaged the establishing of a logistics center at the airport as well as a new cargo terminal, which is now also on the agenda, alongside the construction of a new passenger terminal currently out in a tender process and slated for commissioning by January 15, 2014.
Plans are aiming at constructing a new cargo terminal to be completed by 2015, as part of a new airport logistics center that will be gradually built up from 2013.
During the first half of 2012, the airport handled a total of 8,151 tonnes of cargo and mail, which was 7.4 percent down on the planned volume.
