Sep 27, 2012 (newstodate): Sliac Airport, in central Slovakia, is fighting hard to attract airlines for regular flight services.
The airport recently opened a tender for flights to Prague and Vienna, but the efforts produced no results - no airlines eventually delivered bids despite significant incentives by the airport.
So far, only charter carriers have been operating at the airport during the summer season.
Formerly a military air force base, Sliac Airport was reopened in 2011 after two years of construction works including renovation of the 2,340 m runway and completion of a new passenger terminal.
The airport is operated by the Slovak Air Force that retains control of flight operations, while passenger-related services are provided by the Slovak company Letisko Sliac
