Sep 21, 2012 (newstodate): The Lithuanian charter and ACMI carrier Small Planet Airlines has been contracted to fly Finnish soldiers to their UN mission in Beirut, Lebanon.
The operation is managed by DSV Air & Sea, and the mission has so far comprised 15 rotations from Finland and will continue with a weekly flight till October 17, 2012.
The carrier was registered with the United Nations Global Marketplace as a potential provider of charter services in August 2011, boosting its efforts to further expand its activity as a charter operator.
-Participating in the UN tenders will allow us to further expand our flight geography and extend our business capabilities as well as contribute towards UN participation in global development missions, Vytautas Kaikaris, Small Planet Airlines CEO told newstodate on the occasion.
With HQs at Vilnius, Lithuania, the airline operates a fleet of six Boeing 737 and two Airbus A320 aircraft and performs flights from Lithuania, Poland, Italy, France and the UK.
Small Planet Airlines has Air Operator Certificates (AOC) granted by three European countries Lithuania, Poland and Italy.
