Sep 14, 2012 (newstodate): Effective from November 1, 2012, Kazakhstan will ground all Yak-40 and AN-24 aircraft from operating.
The decision is based on consideration of air safety and the two aircraft types fall below international safety standards.
Three Kazakh carriers currently operate 14 Yak-40 aircraft while the country's air force has been operating AN-24 aircraft.
Some 20 aircraft will be affected by the decision, and instead the country plans to import more western-built aircraft to take their place in the industry.
17 new aircraft will thus reportedly be acquired during 2012-13, adding to the eight aircraft imported in 2011.
