Sep 26, 2012 (newstodate): While the focus is on passenger facilities in the project for a new terminal at the Faroe Islands' Vagar Airport, cargo has not been forgotten either.
-The coming terminal will include also 234 sq m of space dedicated to handling of airfreight, with a separation between airside and landside operations, says Jakup Sverri Kass, Vagar Airport CEO.
-The airside part of the terminal will grant access directly to and from the CRSA-area. A part of the apron areas as well as aircraft parking stands may also be dedicated to cargo aircraft if needs arise in the future, says Mr Kass.
Expectations are that construction works on the new terminal including the cargo facility will start within only a few weeks after finalizing of the negotiations between the airport and Artikon, the consortium to undertake the project.
Other pertinent infrastructure is already in place for a future growth of air traffic including a projected freighter service, such as an extended runway as well as navaids including ILS and an RNP satellite guided precision approach system.
