Sep 21, 2012 (newstodate): Lithuania's Siauliai Airport has seen its cargo volumes rising in 2012, albeit from a modest base.
During the first eight months of this year, the airport has handled a total of 2,870 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 45 percent, y-o-y.
August 2012 was an especially busy month at Siauliai Airport with almost 300 percent more cargo than last year and totaling 766 tonnes.
This even surpassed the previous record month, May 2012, where a total of 600 tonnes was handled.
Driving growth in volumes at Siauliai Airport is the increase in ex-China exports to Russia flown into Istanbul, Turkey, and transferring via Siauliai Airport for trucking to destinations in Russia.
