Aug 24, 2012 (newstodate): Virgin Atlantic has entered the Russian market via a code-share agreement with a major Russian carrier.
Effective from mid-October 2012, Virgin Atlantic and Transaero will code-share the flights between London and Moscow, and from the end of the month the code-share agreement will be expanded to cover also Virgin Atlantic's flights between London and a number of destinations primarily in the Northern part of USA.
Transaero earlier code-shared with bmi on the route between London and Moscow, but with BA's acquisition of bmi this arrangement expired, and several airlines have competed for rights on the route between these destinations.
