Aug 22, 2012 (newstodate): Part of Uzbekistan's ambitious plan for development of the country's airport ground infrastructure, 2011-15, work has now started on construction of a new passenger terminal at Navoi International Airport.
The construction works have been launched, and plans are to have a new passenger terminal up to international standards ready in 2013, already.
As the existing terminal is being demolished, all international passenger flights into Navoi will be directed to Bukhara International Airport till the commissioning of Navoi International Airport's new facilities.
In August 2010, a new cargo terminal with an annual capacity of handling up to 100,000 tonnes was commissioned at Navoi International Airport, and in cooperation with Uzbekistan Airways, Korean Air Cargo now operates over 80 flights per week through Navoi Airport to destinations including Seoul, Milan, Brussels, Zaragoza, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Delhi, Mumbai, Dacca and Istanbul.
