Aug 09, 2012 (newstodate): Vagar Airport, at the Faroe Islands, saw cargo volumes up in July by 12.7 percent, compared to July 2011.
A total of 35.6 tonnes was handled at airport, in addition to 13.2 tonnes of mail, down 13.7 percent, y-o-y.
During the first seven months of 2012, the airport has thus seen
235.7 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 100.9 percent, y-o-y, and 122.1 tonnes of mail, down 14.2 percent.
Total cargo volumes through the airport have been rising since MArch 2012 when Atlantic Airways introduced the Airbus A319 aircraft now serving the trunk route between the Faroe Islands and Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Airbus A319 has a cargo capacity up to two tonnes, depending on volumes of passenger baggage, which indicates that may still be room for more cargo in the aircraft belly hold.
