Aug 14, 2012 (newstodate): Lufthansa Consulting has been contracted to support the development of Ulan Ude Mukhino Airport, in south-eastern Siberia.
Lufthansa Consulting will work out a new 15-year strategy and undertake the airport in achieving the targets defined in the period.
Since May 2011, the airport has been owned by the Russian financial investor Metropol Group that acquired the airport from the Austrian investment company AI Airports International, formerly Meinl Airports, that acquired a 100 percent stake from its KrasAir owners in September, 2007.
The transaction in 2007 was the first case of sale of a Russian airport to a foreign company.
Ulan Ude Mukhino Airport only has some 150,000 passenger annually and plans, never realized, by AI Airports International included the construction of a new runway, extension of the current 3,000 m runway, and new passenger facilities to increase the capacity to handling of one mio passengers.
