Aug 10, 2012 (newstodate): Monday, August 13, 2012, is the deadline for a solution to certain problems with business procedures at Lithuania's Siauliai Airport.
As earlier reported by newstodate, the airport management in July 2012 met with the City Council and the Siauliai Airport Project Group to hear complaints by one handling agent, InterExpresas, that has so far been barred from dealing directly with the airport that has refused to acknowledge payments for handling services rendered to freighter operators.
The airport was granted one month to set up normal contract procedures with the handling company, expiring on August 13, 2012.
-During this past month, we have received at least three requests for quotation and payment using our company from several airlines, says Ginteras Streikus, InterEkspresas managing director.
-But Siauliai Airport still demands either direct payment in cash or pre-payment. Only when airlines sign the contract with the airport directly are they allowed to place a deposit and use the money for payments. All the time the airlines have to make sure that they deposit enough money.
-This is a highly unusual situation. Pending a solution along normal business lines at Siauliai Airport, we are recommending carriers to avoid this airport and choose a more reliable alternative, says Mr Streikus.
