Aug 30, 2012 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic is changing cargo handling provider in Scandinavia.
As reported by newstodate yesterday, airBaltic will move from WFS to Spirit Air Cargo Handling at Copenhagen Airport from August 31, 2012.
But the carrier is also changing cargo handling partner at Oslo Gardermoen Airport, from currently Roadfeeders to Spirit Air Cargo Handling.
-This is the outcome of a cost reduction exercise evaluating benefits of consolidation and high costs of ramp transportation in Copenhagen Airport, says Toms Andersons, airBaltic head of cargo.
The reference to "high costs of ramp transportation in Copenhagen Airport" points to the lack of a consistent and timely solution by Copenhagen Airport to security requirements on the transport roads from the cargo terminals in the eastern premises of the airport.
In absence of a neutral solution, special measures by Spirit Air Cargo Handling to secure the cargo trucks from terminals to aircraft stands have induced extra costs burdens on customers of Swissport, WFS and DHL.
After its recent move to Terminal North, only Spirit Air Cargo Handling's terminal is immediately adjoining the inner security area, giving this provider a special position in the competition.
