Aug 30, 2012 (newstodate): Since July 2012, Spirit Air Cargo Handling is part of SAS Ground Handling and no longer a separate, independent SAS Group subsidiary.
-Seen from the customers' side the change has no effect and is hardly noticeable, says Carsten Johansson, Spirit air Cargo Handling terminal manager Denmark and responsible for the Spirit-brand.
-With the inclusion into SAS Ground Handling, the operations are now part of SGH's responsibility at each station, and our Spirit sales team is similarly included within the SGH organization, says Mr Johansson.
Spirit Air Cargo Handling first emerged in 2004, established in Sweden at the terminals in Stockholm and Gothenburg, and the process was later completed with the formation of similar new Spirit companies in Denmark and Norway.
With effect from July 1, 2006, Spirit Air Cargo Handling Group AB was set up, fully owned by SAS Cargo as an independent legal entity to handle air cargo on 12 airport terminals throughout Scandinavia.
Spirit Air Cargo Handling was put on the sales list in 2007 as part of the SAS Group's drive to divest of non-core activities, but later lifted off the list again in 2011.
Expectations in the market, unconfirmed by SAS, are that negotiations are proceeding with an unidentified party for the sale of SAS Ground Handling, thus including the air cargo handling business.
